Don't CRY - Please TRY !!

The theme of the years World youth Skills Day was "learning to learn"emphasizing learning must not end in the classroom. "Learning to learn" can mean a lot of things, learning is about curiosity which comes from a passion for something or having a spark of interest in something.

World Youth Skills Day was celebrated all over the world on July 15, to spread the message of UNESCO for fostering skills among the youth worldwide. Skills are the key to counting prosperity and social upliftment.

According to the latest survey almost 73.4billion people all over the world are unemployed and 7% of the youth are underemployed. Lack of adequate skills contributed to this. Skills include human skills, personal skills, leadership skills, language skills and team work skills, which are the most important skills to be developed for the sustainable development of the world's youth.

Sri Venkatesh S.V, CEO, RIIIT, Mysuru, was the lead speaker on the occasion. He termed the engineering graduates as vanilla graduates as they are all equally qualified and each of them compete with each other to find a job. "It is necessary to nurture the inherent skills in each individual to carve out a lucrative career for oneself. The latest survey states that India has to create at least 2 crore jobs annually to employ allthe engineers it produces every year. Well developed countries are progressing at a rapid pace with abundance of skilled youth compared to the under developed countries. The fatalistic attitude of the third world countries add to this problem. Instead of crying over lost opportunities the youth must replace CRY with TRY and use CRY as fuel to achieve goals", he said.

In the PPT, the motivational video of Ms. Jessica and Mr.Dereck Redmont was displayed. Ms Jessica fought her physical incapability and successfully became a pilot through her sheer hard work. "Success is not something to wait for, it is something to work for, and it is not a matter of chance but choice." He was all praise for the bold steps initiated by SimhaSubbamahalakshmi First Grade College aimed at making imparting of education integrated with real life".

Sri Venkatesh cited from his own life's experience to drive home the idea of ever getting engaged with the positive work all the time? to become giants in the field of anything. "My hard work has carried me into PM's Skill Advisory Panel", he said.

Dr. K V Prabhakar, Director, narrated the newly undertaken experiments of the college to enhance skill and empower youth through a series of interventions like Add on and Interface programs. Anil. M, HoD, Department of English welcomed and also presented vote of thanks. About seventy students and a dozen other members attended the program.

Social Business: Youth Network

Social business is a new form of capitalism and a new kind of enterprise based on the self-lessness of people. Nobel Laureate Prof. Muhammad Yunus, 'father of microcredit', who pioneered this new form of capitalism, Social Business, says ''it is a new kind of business, dedicated to solving social, economic and environmental problems that have long plagued mankind : hunger, homelessness, diseases, pollution, ignorance. In this form of business, the driving objective, therefore, is serving the society, not profit making. Nevertheless, it is a commercial venture following the very same business principles as other kinds of businesses do, but the goal makes the difference.

The Mysterious World of Snakes and Reptiles : A special lecture by Snake Shyam

Sri M S Balasubramania popularly known as "Snake Shyam" was addressing the students of SSFGC, who had gathered for the special lecture on "The Mysterious World of Snakes and Reptiles" on 5th August, 2019.

Snake Shyam has caught more than 11,000 snakes and is the most wanted man whenever people sight a snake. He has an association with snakes for more than 25 years and no one can understand snakes better than him. He was speaking on the occasion of "Naga Panchami", the most popular festival among the Hindus where the snake gods are worshipped religiously by offering milk ,honey, water, kumkum and turmeric. He dispelled all blind beliefs that were related to snakes like snakes drink milk, havenagamani in their anthill also attack with vengeance. He advised all devout Hindus to worship snakes as silver idol or stone idol. The offerings made in the form of water, milk etc. can make the anthill soggy and snakes can't move freely, the incense sticks lit near the anthill can suffocate the snake.

The snakes prey on rats, lizards, frogs ,bats and sometimes other smaller snakes also as per Charles Darwin's theory of Survival of the fittest. They are cold blooded animals living in anthills most of the summer and come out to warm up during winter season. Snakes usually do not harm anybody, they attack only when they sense danger to their lives. They do not have ears or nose but with the help of their split tongue which acts as antenna, they can smell the pheromones on the skin of frogs and rats and prey on them. They can prey on animals which are 10-12 times bigger than their head. They have expandable jaws to swallow their prey wholly and then slowly digest it.
